INTRODUCTION

The VITAL CITY TOURNAMENT is a yearly competition where trainers from around the world gather to a specific city to give it their all and take their chances at winning first place. This particular tournament is special in the way that it offers a different set of rules that stand out from your typical league-like experience.

This year's VITAL CITY TOURNAMENT takes place in LILYCOVE CITY at the END OF JANUARY. The entire city has been decorated to celebrate the event and its participants. Tourists can be found at every corner watching matches from the sidelines and engaging with the many food stalls and temporary stores scattered throughout the booming metropolis.

DENSOKU is responsible for hosting the Vital City Tournament along with a variety of other organized competitions found throughout the world. Initially an athletic apparel company, they have since expanded into technology with releases such as the VITAL GEAR.

DURING THE TOURNAMENT, Lilycove City is visited by a THERIAN FORME THUNDURUS. It seems to be lost, a vagabond seeking a new home to reside in. Attracted to the destruction present in Hoenn and its potential, it makes itself known in the city.[break][break]

You may play around with a THUNDURUS' STORMS affecting the setting of Lilycove City for your battles. You may also decide to RP non-battle threads within the setting of The Vital City Tournament.

SUMMARY

THE GOAL OF THIS EVENT is to engage in as many VITAL BATTLES as you can with other trainers. VITAL BATTLES will reward VITALS to its participants. Whoever has the highest amount of VITALS at the end of the event wins the VITAL CITY TOURNAMENT. Earning VITALS will unlock a variety of rewards for contestants.

VITAL BATTLES are a brand new battle-type that forces trainers to exclusively use a single partner pokémon. Trainers are encouraged to select a partner pokémon that benefits from one of the many GIMMICKS found in the Hoenn region. These GIMMICKS give a clear advantage in VITAL BATTLES, so it's important to prioritize pokémon that can use them.

VITAL BATTLES

Unlike other battles in Hoenn, VITAL BATTLES are determined by DICE ROLLS. Each partner pokemon starts off with three HP before the battle starts. Players will exchange attacks between posts by using a single DICE ROLL in each of their posts. Whoever has the higher number between the two rolls strikes their opponent's partner pokemon and removes one HP. GIMMICKS will apply bonuses to partner pokemon and add special modifiers to their DICE ROLLS in certain situations. This back-and-forward continues until one of the partner pokemon runs out of HP. Both contenders walk away with VITALS, but winners will walk away with more.

In character, VITAL BATTLES should be treated differently from your typical battles. There are no limitations when it comes to move use, so your characters are able to use as many moves as they'd like per post as long as it's within reason.[break][break]

Combat should RESEMBLE SOMETHING CLOSER TO A FIGHTING GAME instead of a turn-based RPG. Fights should feel fluid and each post needs be elaborate and thorough in its description of each attack.[break][break]

Use the DICE ROLL totals as reference for how the battle plays out. Since this is a new battle-type, most trainers, including canon characters, are on AN EQUAL PLAYING FIELD OUTSIDE OF THEIR GIMMICKS.

RULES & GUIDELINES

Participants of the VITAL CITY TOURNAMENT will be required to follow the rules and guidelines found below:

Every trainer is limited to ONE PARTNER POKEMON. This pokémon cannot be changed during the event. Once your character has used a certain pokemon for a (vct) thread, they're stuck with that pokémon for the duration of the event. Choose wisely.
Only TWO CHARACTERS PER PLAYER can participate.
Battles MUST take place in LILYCOVE CITY.
You may only use ONE GIMMICK PER THREAD. If your partner pokémon has access to multiple gimmicks, you may use different gimmicks for each thread but you can never use more than one per thread.
Remember that VITAL BATTLES FOLLOW THEIR OWN RULES. Certain battle mechanics may influence your writing and story-telling, but they will never directly affect the results of your DICE ROLLS.
When making a (vct) thread, participants MUST INTRODUCE THEIR CHARACTERS WITH A SINGLE POST before combat is initiated. Participants are also required to post again at the end of the battle to conclude the fight and CLARIFY THE WINNER.
Avatar-related Legendaries CANNOT be used as partner pokemon.
You CANNOT modify or remove MODIFIERS once they've been added to your post. This specifically applies to Z-MOVES and MEGA EVOLUTION.
Players must use DICE ROLLS AS REFERENCE when writing their attacks. If you're losing exchanges, that should be displayed within your posts.
Salac Berries CANNOT be used for combat.
Winners walk away with TWO VITALS, while losers only walk away with ONE VITAL.
DYNAMAX and GIGANTAMAX users can wait to transform during their battles and still benefit from their gimmick's perk throughout the vital battle, as long as they eventually transform during that battle.
Anyone caught CHEATING out-of-character will have their character disqualified and they will lose access to all rewards.
You are required to TRACK YOUR CHARACTER'S PARTNER POKÉMON, BATTLES, OPPONENTS, RESULTS AND VITALS EARNED. Your trackers must be posted within this thread. You may use the template provided down below or another one of your making as long as it provides all the necessary information.

HOW TO PLAY

I. Find a battling partner and create a thread in Lilycove City with the (vct) tag.
II. Both participants should make an introduction post before engaging in battle.
III. After your first post, combat is initiated and you'll be required to add a dice roll to each post. When using gimmicks, be sure to include what gimmick you're using and how it modifies your dice roll. If your dice roll has a higher number than your opponent's, then you win that exchange and remove 1 HP from your opponent's partner pokémon.
IV. Once a partner pokémon runs out of HP, the battle is over. Both participants should provide an additional post in the same thread that concludes the battle.
VI. After the thread is finished, modify your tracker here with the results.
VII. Repeat this until the end of the event and earn rewards based on how many Vitals your character obtains.

If both competitors roll the same EXACT NUMBER after modifiers, neither pokemon will receive damage to their HP for that round.

GIMMICKS

GIMMICKS in this event do not follow the same restrictions or mechanics as they normally do on site. However, their effects in this event reflect in some part, how they work on site (e.g. Z-moves as a burst of power).[break][break]

Mega Evolution users receive a +20 modifier to any two consecutive rolls. These two rolls cannot be split.

Z-Move users can add a +50 modifier to any single roll. This can only be done once per vital battle.

Dynamax and Gigantamax users have 4 HP instead of 3 HP.

Terastal Pokémon receive a +15 modifier on every roll that's an even number.

Sygna Suit users receive a +10 modifier on every single roll they make.

[attr="class","vitalspace"]
Shadow Pokémon receive a +10 modifier on rolls that include the number 6. If 66 is rolled, they receive a +30 modifier.

Illumina and Purified Pokémon receive a +10 modifier on rolls that include the number 7. If 77 is rolled, they receive a +30 modifier.

The Vital Pass is responsible for recording the Vitals trainers earn from participating in the Vital City Tournament and other competitions hosted by DENSOKU.

Using AR technology, the Vital Gear is a single device that gives trainers a clear picture of their partner pokemon's stats and abitilies. Information like health, stamina and available moves are available in real-time during combat.

Instead of operating like a shop currency, the VITAL system functions similarly to a tiered battle pass. As you earn more VITALS by participating in VITAL BATTLES, you'll unlock more rewards on the track. Ranks on the track directly correspond with how many VITALS earned.

Any Pokemon can obtain Close Combat when you administer the "Root of Pugnus" to it.
Tera Shard can apply any of the base 18 types.
The Mega Stone requires a Mega Accessory to use.
The Dynamax Candy can be used to increase the amount of Dynergy Barrier segments for a Dynamaxed Pokemon.

Each character may earn ONE GYM BADGE from any Gym Leader they defeat during the tournament. These badges count as NON-TRADITIONAL in respect to the Hoennian Champion Assessment.

Should a character defeat multiple Gym Leaders, they must make their choice prior to the end of the tournament. A gym badge earned via this method DOES NOT warrant any PD or INFAMY.
